Liverpool v West Ham, Premier League: odds, predictions

by Lea

Liverpool-West Ham is a match valid for the sixth day of the Premier League and is played on Sunday at 15:00: TV, formations, predictions.

Liverpool have now become a season ticket holder for comebacks. Even in the Europa League, last Thursday against Lask Linz, the Reds had gone down and then managed to turn it around in the second half. The same had happened against Wolverhampton, Newcastle and Bournemouth in the Premier League: other games that saw Jurgen Klopp’s team put things back on track after going a goal down.

In Austria the match obviously took a different direction when the German coach threw the starters into the fray, who needed only a few minutes to confirm their superiority. Klopp spoke of mentality, personality and character, three ‘ingredients’ that Liverpool certainly do not lack, called upon to restart after a disappointing season. Last year the Reds had to settle for fifth place in the league table, missing out on Champions League qualification. Something unusual for a club that had not played in the ‘minor’ cups in Europe for seven years. The year, for Salah and his teammates, started in the best of ways: only victories after the (undeserved) draw in the opener against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Klopp has a golden opportunity this weekend to move into second place by himself, taking advantage of the London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham, who are 13 points behind the Reds.

A visit to Anfield Road will be paid by West Ham, who, like Liverpool, were engaged in the Europa League on Thursday, obtaining a comfortable victory against the Serbian side Backa Topola (3-1).

The cup game allowed the Hammers to turn the page after their first defeat of the season to Manchester City, last Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at the London Stadium. A defeat that was hard to avoid but prevented David Moyes’ men from keeping pace with the others (Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham) by staying level on 10 points.

The Prediction

From 2020 onwards only Liverpool wins, with the exception of the pyrotechnic 3-2 in November 2021, in which West Ham came out on top. The Reds have not yet found an antidote to their defensive amnesias – only one clean sheet so far – but against the Hammers they should bring home another success. At least three goals overall

Liverpool-West Ham’s likely line-up

  • LIVERPOOL (4-3-3): Alisson; Gomez, Konaté, van Dijk, Robertson; Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Jones; Salah, Gakpo, Diogo Jota.
  • WEST HAM (4-2-3-1): Areola; Coufal, Zouma, Aguerd, Emerson Palmieri; Ward-Prowse, Alvarez; Bowen, Kudus, Benrahma; Antonio.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 2-1
