Wolverhampton-Liverpool is a match valid for the fifth day of the Premier League and is played Saturday at 1:30pm: TV, lineups, predictions.
It is not full score like Manchester City, which after four days has already set the record straight, but Liverpool is also rightfully among the teams that have most impressed in this very first glimpse of Premier League 2023-24.
Even so, the Reds did not get off to a great start: on their debut they had returned from the London away match against Chelsea with a fortunate draw (1-1) to say the least, which did not bode well, especially for a top club coming off a disappointing season. The turning point came from the second day of the championship, from the match at Anfield against Bournemouth, beaten 3-1 despite being outnumbered due to Mac Allister’s expulsion at the beginning of the second half. Something very similar also happened against Newcastle on the following day: with a man down – and what a man, since we are talking about the mainstay of the defense van Dijk – Liverpool was able to conquer St. James’ Park and inflict the second defeat of the season on the Magpies, a direct competitor for a place among the top four, thanks to a goal scored by Darwin Nunez in the last breath. On the other hand, the success achieved against Unai Emery’s Aston Villa, overwhelmed 3-0 before the national team break. Among the scorers, in addition to new signing Szoboszlai, was that Salah who eventually managed to resist the sirens of the Saudi Pro League by staying at Liverpool.
Wolverhampton struggle to get going
That of Wolverhampton, the Reds’ next opponent, was instead a start in line with the previous season, which saw the Wolves struggle for safety.
Kilman and co. changed technical leadership before they even started, having to deal with the sudden resignation of Julen Lopetegui, who broke with the club in the middle of August. In the Basque’s place came Gary O’Neil, the main architect of Bournemouth’s salvation last year. The black-and-gold, however, are not enchanting: the only victory came in the direct clash with Everton (0-1) at Goodison Park. Otherwise only and exclusively defeats, including the latest at home to Hodgson’s Crystal Palace (3-2).
The Prediction
Liverpool has appeared confident, and victories with Newcastle and Aston Villa amount to two level tests passed with flying colors. Despite the absence of van Dijk – the Dutch defender is still disqualified – Jurgen Klopp’s team should also return with three points from Molineux, taking advantage of the Wolves’ moment of difficulty, which appeared too fragile. The total goals in all likelihood will be at least three.
