Aston Villa-West Ham, Premier League: odds, predictions

by Martin

Aston Villa-West Ham is a match valid for the fourth day of the Premier League and it is played on Sunday at 15:00: formations, predictions, tv, streaming.

In the Premier League the only team still without points after the first three rounds is West Ham. No one expected such a disappointing start from the Hammers, who for a couple of seasons now have been a permanent fixture in the top seven of the English Premier League and harbour major ambitions. Last year they reached the semi-finals of the Europa League, this year they will compete in the Conference, where they are considered among the main favourites along with the Spanish Villarreal.

The club’s investments (in addition to Scamacca, they have just picked up Emerson Palmieri from Chelsea and former Milan player Paquetà from Lyon is on the home straight) are paying off, but coach David Moyes must turn things around as soon as possible to avoid losing too much ground to the direct competitors for a European place. Incredibly, the Londoners, in addition to three defeats in a row against Manchester City, Nottingham Forest and Brighton, have failed to score a single goal. And, at the same time, concede five. The Scottish coach is now trying to find out what it is that is not working, but in the meantime he got through the Conference League play-off without any major problems, smashing six goals in total against the Danish side Viborg, an opponent who never gave him any real trouble in the first leg or the return leg.

In the cup, meanwhile, Scamacca, who was on the scorers’ sheet in both matches, made his first appearance in Birmingham in place of Antonio. And while West Ham are coming to terms with an attack that is struggling to break through, Aston Villa have been less than solid in the non-possession phase: Steven Gerrard’s men have never held a lead and after their success against Everton they suffered their second defeat of the season at home to Crsytal Palace. Unreliable, finally, was the very clear 4-1 victory in the League Cup second round with Bolton.

The Prediction

Both would need to win after a stuttering start, but the one who is hungrier for points is definitely West Ham. The Hammers should be able to avoid defeat this time, even finding their first goals of the season ‘thanks’ to the Villans’ fragile rearguard. In all likelihood the total goals will be at least three.

The likely line-ups for Aston Villa-West Ham

  • ASTON VILLA (4-3-3): Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Mings, Digne; McGinn, Kamara, Ramsey; Buendia, Watkins, Bailey.
