Fulham-Tottenham is a match valid for the second round of the League Cup and is played on Tuesday at 8:45 p.m.: statistics, probable formations and predictions.
Few would have bet on such a storming start by Tottenham. Spurs after three days in the Premier League have already collected seven points, as have Arsenal, Liverpool and West Ham, in a league table that sees only defending champions Manchester City on full points.
And it was by no means a foregone conclusion, we said. Yes, because the London club has changed quite a bit in a summer in which the announced sale of Harry Kane, gunner and symbol of the team for years, materialized. But the changes are also on the bench: after a nightmarish season, in which Conte, Stellini and Mason took turns, the club chaired by the demanding Daniel Levy decided, almost surprisingly, to give a chance to Ange Postecoglou, a technician with very offensive ideas and with positive experience behind him, albeit in minor leagues. The Greek-born Australian distinguished himself mainly at the helm of Celtic, taking the Glasgow green-and-whites back to the throne of Scotland. His imprint is immediately clearly visible in this Tottenham side: in three matches Spurs have never scored less than two goals and have totaled one draw (Brentford) and two victories (Manchester United and Bournemouth). Cups are not the priority but could become important in a year when they will not play any European competition.
Tottenham, which has not won a trophy since 2008, will make its League Cup debut in the London derby against Fulham, the only second-round match in which two Premier clubs face each other.
Marco Silva’s Cottagers, while not shining, haven’t done badly so far: after a lucky win against Everton and a thunderous defeat suffered in the cross-city match with Brentford, last Saturday they managed to snatch a point in the Emirates Stadium match against Arsenal, which was reached (2-2) with three minutes left by Palhinha.
The prediction
Many changes on both sides, but the one between Fulham and Tottenham will be a real game. Spurs are really in a good moment and should also have some more motivation than the Cottagers. Both are likely to score.
