West Ham-Chelsea, Premier League: likely lineups, predictions.

by Lea

West Ham-Chelsea is a match valid for the second day of the Premier League and is played on Sunday at 5:30pm: TV, lineups, predictions.

The first London derby to feature in the 2023-24 Premier League is between West Ham and Chelsea, two clubs coming off an extremely disappointing championship.

The Hammers, who even ended up fighting not to be relegated, consoled themselves in extremis with the Conference League victory, lifted last June to the sky in Prague after their success in the final against Fiorentina, while the Blues changed as many as three coaches and finished incredibly in the right side of the standings despite the more than 500 million euros invested in the market. On the first day both had to settle for a draw: West Ham was already savoring the sweet taste of three points, but Bournemouth striker Solanke with eight minutes left brought the East London club’s fans back down to earth. David Moyes, coach of the Hammers, in the post-match interview brought up Lady Luck, branding as “lucky” the action from which the goal scored by the Rossoneri center forward originated. The midfield does not seem to suffer from the absence of Rice, the former captain bought in the summer from Arsenal: while waiting to see if the club will be able to resist Manchester City’s assault for Paqueta, former Southampton man Ward-Prowse has arrived, one of the reinforcements advocated by the coach.

Good first for the “new” Chelsea

Also “unlucky” draw for Chelsea, which would have deserved to win in the big match with Liverpool (1-1) at Stamford Bridge.

MMauricio Pochettino’s Blues would have liked to beat the Reds on the field as well after having already done so in the market: in fact, Caicedo and Lavia eventually preferred London to Merseyside. Good the first, in short, for the Argentine coach, called to relaunch his career and above all to relaunch Chelsea, archiving a year to forget. Encouraging, at any rate, is the fact that against a Klopp team the Blues kept the ball almost always (65 percent): they just lacked some nastiness in the penalty area.

The Prediction

West Ham at home always has an edge: it’s no coincidence that they haven’t lost to the Blues at the London Stadium since 2021. We expect the game to be played by the Blues, who appeared very proactive and inspired against Liverpool but their victory is not a foregone conclusion. Let’s play it safe with the goal sign: both will score at least one on each side.

The probable lineups of West Ham-Chelsea

  • WEST HAM (4-2-3-1): Areola; Coufal, Aguerd, Zouma, Emerson Palmieri; Paqueta, Soucek; Benrahma, Fornals, Bowen; Antonio.
  • CHELSEA (3-4-3): Sanchez; Disasi, Thiago Silva, Colwill; James, Enzo Fernandez, Gallagher, Chilwell; Sterling, Nicolas Jackson, Mudryk.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 1-2
