The first London derby to feature in the 2023-24 Premier League is between West Ham and Chelsea, two clubs coming off an extremely disappointing championship.
The Hammers, who even ended up fighting not to be relegated, consoled themselves in extremis with the Conference League victory, lifted last June to the sky in Prague after their success in the final against Fiorentina, while the Blues changed as many as three coaches and finished incredibly in the right side of the standings despite the more than 500 million euros invested in the market. On the first day both had to settle for a draw: West Ham was already savoring the sweet taste of three points, but Bournemouth striker Solanke with eight minutes left brought the East London club’s fans back down to earth. David Moyes, coach of the Hammers, in the post-match interview brought up Lady Luck, branding as “lucky” the action from which the goal scored by the Rossoneri center forward originated. The midfield does not seem to suffer from the absence of Rice, the former captain bought in the summer from Arsenal: while waiting to see if the club will be able to resist Manchester City’s assault for Paqueta, former Southampton man Ward-Prowse has arrived, one of the reinforcements advocated by the coach.
