Sunday 30 July predictions: City take on Atletico Madrid in Seoul. But games are also being played in Brazil, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland and Norway
The Premier League 2023-24, like the other major European leagues, is just around the corner. Many teams are still engaged in intercontinental tours ahead of their first official commitments. Manchester City, who will be looking to add another trophy to their trophy cabinet in a week’s time – the Community Shield against Arsenal is up for grabs at Wembley – face Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid in South Korea in the morning.
The Colchoneros are coming off a 3-2 defeat against a Korean league selection in which they failed to show their usual defensive fortitude. The Citizens could take advantage of Madrid’s less than optimal athletic condition in a match with at least one goal each. The other ‘Asian’ friendly between Liverpool and Leicester is also likely to be lively, while Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea, who have looked lively in their first outings, could get the better of Fulham in the derby. Finally, there should be no shortage of entertainment in the Las Vegas showdown between Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund, which is played on the night.
Other match predictions
In the Brasileirao, leading Botafogo are likely to extend their positive streak in the match against Coritiba, who could, however, at least on one occasion, pierce the Bianconeri’s rearguard. More complicated engagement instead for Palmeiras, who will visit a reborn America Mineiro. There are also games to be played in the Swiss Super League and in the Eliteserien: coming back from their Conference League commitments, Basel and Rosenborg should avoid defeat in two matches in which the total goals will be at least two.
