Brasileirao 2023, the spotlight is on the high-stakes match between Fluminense and Flamengo: news and predictions.
In one of the previews of the 15th day of the Brasileirao, the unstoppable Botafogo also got rid of Bragantino, further widening the gap on the pursuers. Thirteen are now the points that separate Bruno Lage’s Botafogo from the second Flamengo.
The Mengao fans’ hopes of winning back a title that has been missing for three years are diminishing week after week. Jorge Sampaoli’s Rossoneri, after a draw in last week’s big match with Palmeiras (1-1), beat Athletico Paranaense in the Copa do Brasil in a match marked by two expulsions, and now prepare to face a very heartfelt derby against a resurgent Fluminense. The problems seem to be behind them for the Tricolor Carioca, who in the last month have only lost to Sao Paulo away. The classification, in fact, speaks clearly: Fluminense is now fourth, -2 from Flamengo itself. And if on the one hand it is normal to imagine a balanced match, on the other hand, the conditions seem to be in place for a highly spectacular extracittadina, given that two of the most qualitative and prolific attacks in the Brazilian top league are facing each other. It would be no surprise if they both score.
The other match to watch carefully is the one between two historical clubs, Internacional and Palmeiras. Verdao is fifth but gives the impression of having forgotten how to win. The last green-and-white success in the Brasileirao dates back to 11 June and it is unlikely that Abel Ferreira’s men will come out on top in Porto Alegre, against a very solid line-up.
Brasileirao 2023: there is the Paulista derby between São Paulo and Santos
The one between Fluminense and Flamengo is not the only derby scheduled for this day. São Paulo-Santos, one of several Paulistas’ derbies, is also being played
The Tricolor Paulista arrives in a much better condition. In the Copa do Brasil they have just beaten Palmeiras 2-1, extending their positive streak. São Paulo is the team that has done best in front of its own public after Botafogo, collecting 18 points in seven matches. Against a Santos team that has barely picked up four points away from home, a success should arrive on time. Fortaleza is also favoured over Cuiaba: Juan Pablo Vojvoda’s men have only lost to Flamengo and Botafogo in their last six outings, and have otherwise won them all. Beware, however, of Cuiaba, who on the road despite scoring few goals have scored 10 points out of 21. Athletico Paranaense can bounce back after three consecutive defeats against a Bahia that has not won for a month. A draw would not be surprising, finally, in the challenge between two struggling teams such as Goias and Atletico Mineiro: both should score.
