Sunday 2 July predictions: European U21 quarter-finals draw to a close, Brasileirao, Eliteserien and other tournaments are also on the line.
The quarter-finals of the European Under-21 Championships come to a close this evening with France-Ukraine and England-Portugal. Finishing the group stage with nine points out of as many available certifies, if proof were needed, the strength of this France side. Sylvain Ripoll’s selection, the only one to win them all so far along with England, swept through on the third and final day against Switzerland (1-4) but had been less convincing in the previous two matches.
Ukraine can already be satisfied with their run and against France they will play with the calmness of those who have nothing to lose. Both should score in any case in a match that should provide goals and spectacle. Goals should also arrive on time in England v Poland, with the English side favourites for what they have shown so far.
Other match predictions
Of the games with at least three goals in total, watch out for the often goal-rich Norwegian league: Lillestrom-Tromso and Sarpsborg-Sandefjord to watch out for, along with Brann-HamKam and Bodo/Glimt-Molde. There is also play in Brazil, where surprising Botafogo are favourites over Vasco da Gama.
