Fiorentina v Roma is a Serie A Week 37 match to be played on Saturday at 18:00: lineups, predictions, TV and streaming.
The head is elsewhere. The championship is no longer a priority for Fiorentina and Roma, as both prepare to play in the upcoming Conference and Europa League finals respectively. The Viola have just played another one, of finals. Last Wednesday it took on Inter in the last act of the Coppa Italia, surrendering 2-1 to the Nerazzurri.
The usual ambitious performance was not enough for Vincenzo Italiano’s side, who were unable to hold on to the lead they had gained in the first five minutes of the game thanks to a goal from Nico Gonzalez. The holders of the trophy took advantage of a couple of defensive inattentions and overturned it already in the first half with a double from the unleashed Lautaro Martinez. In the second half, the purple siege proved fruitless: Jovic had the ball of the possible 2-2 but wasted it badly, preventing Fiorentina from going at least to extra time. Now the lily-livered players are betting everything on the Conference League: on 7 June in Prague they will compete against West Ham, aware that even then winning the cup would mean snatching a pass for the next Europa League. For Biraghi and his team-mates, it is now impossible to get there via the championship: last Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Torino has also distanced them from eighth place, occupied by Monza.
Roma, all about the Europa League
José Mourinho’s Roma were held to a 2-2 draw at the Stadio Olimpico by Salernitana. A result that in fact is a real surrender as far as the race for fourth place and the Champions League is concerned.
The Capitolini are sixth on 60 points, -4 behind fourth-placed AC Milan. They would have to win both of their last two matches and hope that the Rossoneri do not do the same: in the event of a draw, Stefano Pioli’s men would have the better of the match on goal difference, as the direct clashes are perfectly tied. In front, meanwhile, there is also Atalanta, who have one point more. That is why the Portuguese coach only has the Europa League on his mind: next week he will face the fearsome Sevilla in the final in Budapest, with the chance to lift a continental trophy for the second year in a row and obtain a pass for the next edition of the Champions League, as the top seed.
Fiorentina v Roma: latest line-up news
Italiano should opt for another experimental line-up, stuffed with second-liners, as he did a week ago in Turin. Jovic, who appeared brighter than Cabral, will find space in attack, but Kouamé and Brekalo will also have a chance. In the midfield there will be space for Duncan, paired with Mandragora, while at the back with Martinez Quarta there will be Igor.
Turnover perhaps even more for Mourinho. The Setubal-born coach has already said he will send several youngsters onto the pitch, including Keramitsis and Missori. In midfield it will be the turn of Bove and Camara, while in goal Svilar will make Rui Patricio play second fiddle. In attack Belotti will be supported by Solbakken-El Shaarawy.
The prediction
Roma have won six of their last seven meetings against Fiorentina, including the first leg which ended 2-0 to the Giallorossi at the Stadio Olimpico. In contrast, the Viola won the match at the ‘Franchi’ exactly a year ago, against a Roma also distracted at the time by a Conference League final. Mourinho is expected to overdo the turnover, but Italian will also rest many of those starters who played in the Coppa Italia on Wednesday. Both, in short, have no great motivation as far as the championship is concerned. And that is why it is advisable to stay away from the final result: it is likely that, without pressure, both the Viola and the Giallorossi will manage to score at least one goal each.
