Liverpool-Brentford, Premier League: likely lineups, predictions.

by Mark

Liverpool-Brentford is a match valid for the thirty-fifth day of the Premier League and is played Saturday at 6:30pm: TV, lineups, predictions.

Jurgen Klopp has found his Liverpool side, “absconding” for most of the season, but the feeling is that it is now too late to regain one of the top four spots that allow them to play in the Champions League next year. The Reds’ chase meanwhile knows no rest and on Wednesday, in the rematch against Fulham, came their fifth consecutive victory (1-0) thanks to a penalty kick converted by the usual Salah.

A success that allowed Liverpool to consolidate fifth place, the one that secures a place in the Europa League. But it won’t be easy, in the last four days left to play, to nibble more points off Manchester United and Newcastle, who in addition to being +4 and +6 respectively on the Reds, still have to make up a game. Klopp’s men have been unbeaten for seven rounds, since they foundered 4-1 at home to Manchester City last April 1: since that heavy defeat, they have picked up two draws and five victories, reviving their ambitions and re-entering a Champions race that only a couple of months ago seemed unable to involve them anymore.

Liverpool can’t stop

Continuing to win and putting pressure on those in front is the goal for Salah and his teammates in the next four games, with the most difficult engagement being with Aston Villa at Anfield.

In this round, however, it will be the turn of surprising Brentford to pay a visit to the Reds’ temple. The Bees, despite a few physiological “breaks,” have made a resounding championship compared to what were the expectations and can still have their say for a place in Europe thanks to two wins in a row against Chelsea and Nottingham Forest. Six points that allowed the London red-and-whites to reach 50, only four less than the Tottenham-Aston Villa pair, the two teams currently sharing seventh place. Brentford, like Liverpool, has to deal with numerous defections: Jansson, Lewis-Potter, Norgaard will be missing and Ajer is also in doubt; in the Reds, on the other hand, Thiago has stopped again, joining Bajcetic, Firmino and Ramsay in the infirmary.

The Prediction

Liverpool cannot afford any breaks if they want to continue their hopes of Champions League qualification, and they start favored against Brentford. At Anfield Road, the Reds have never lost in their last 10 games and should score their sixth win in a row in a match where both teams are likely to score.

The likely Liverpool-Brentford lineups

  • LIVERPOOL (4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konaté, van Dijk, Robertson; Jones, Fabinho, Elliott; Salah, Gakpo, Darwin Nunez.
  • BRENTFORD (4-3-3): Raya; Hickey, Mee, Pinnock, Henry; Jensen, Janelt, Dasilva; Mbeumo, Toney, Schade.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 2-1
