Romania-Belarus, Euro 2024 qualifiers: tv, odds,

by Michael

Romania-Belarus is a match on the second day of Group I of Euro 2024 qualifying and is played on Tuesday at 20:45: tv, predictions.

Romania didn’t let it happen twice. And they took advantage of the draw between Israel and Kosovo, the two biggest threats to second place in Group I behind heavy favourites Switzerland, by returning with three points from the far from prohibitive trip to Andorra.

No goleada against the small selection of the Principality: one goal per half was enough to close the file. First Man from Parma and then the striker Alibec, served to perfection by Marin from Empoli. Andorra’s selection is not very competitive, it is true, but it was fundamental to start off on the right foot for the Tricolorii, a national team that comes from difficult years, in which it has only managed to qualify for one final phase of a major international review. Returning to play in a European Championship eight years after the last time is the declared goal of coach Edward Iordanescu, who was confirmed at the helm of the Romanian team despite being relegated to the Nations League C. In fact, Romania finished last in the group with Bosnia, Finland and Montenegro: the goal difference with the Montenegrins, who scored the same points as him, was fatal.

The last precedent dates back 12 years

The Nations League, however, is water under the bridge. Now Stanciu and his team-mates have a huge opportunity and they must do everything to make the most of it

Restanding on full points should not be a problem, as in their next match they will have to deal with modest Belarus, who were thrashed by Switzerland in their opener. On the neutral pitch in Novi Sad – the Belarus federation was sanctioned by UEFA because of its government’s support for Russia’s aggression against Ukraine – it ended 0-5 to the Swiss. A line-up, the one led by Georgi Kondratyev, that showed obvious gaps: it would already be a success, from this point of view, to be able to avoid last place. Belarus return to face Romania after almost 12 years, in the Euro 2012 qualifiers: both the first leg and the return ended in a draw and neither side managed to qualify.

The Prediction

Romania’s victory should not be in question against a selection that showed big limits against Switzerland. The hosts are likely to score between two and four goals, conceding none. Iordanescu’s men are likely to finish both halves of the game in the lead.

Romania-Belarus line-up probables

  • ROMANIA (4-5-1): Radu; Ratiu, Dragusin, Burca, Sorescu; Morutan, Stanciu, Marin, Olaru, Man; Alibec.
