Borussia Monchengladbach-Werder Bremen, Bundesliga: line-ups, predictions

by Mike

Borussia Monchengladbach-Werder Bremen is a Bundesliga Week 25 match and is played on Friday at 20:30: TV, predictions.

Equal from both the European and relegation zones, Borussia Monchengladbach and Werder Bremen are tied on 30 points and have no major goals to chase, as both were also eliminated from the German Cup. It will therefore be complicated to find the right motivation in this final part of the season, which sees them heading for a quiet salvation.

Borussia Monchengladbach’s plans were originally quite different: this was to be the year of redemption for the Fohlen, who had come back from a disappointing championship in which they failed to qualify for any continental competition. Barring a sensational comeback, Thuram and his teammates will remain out of it this time as well. Daniel Farke, the former Norwich coach enlisted to open a new cycle after Adi Hutter’s unsuccessful adventure, cannot be satisfied with a performance that is far too inconsistent. Eight victories, six draws and ten defeats are Gladbach’s spoils in 24 Bundesliga days. In the last six rounds, Borussia have only won one match, the most prestigious one, confirming themselves as Bayern Munich’s black beast. The victory against the Bavarians (3-2) remains one of the few joys for a team that continues to accumulate disappointment after disappointment.

Werder Bremen without half measures

Since their success over the reigning champions Farke’s men have barely scored a point in three matches, losing badly in the two away matches of Mainz (4-0) and Leipzig (3-0).

Gladbach better at home, where they are unbeaten since 22 January. In terms of discontinuity, Werder Bremen is no joke either. Since the start of the season the green-and-whites have no half measures: no draws, three wins and six defeats. Ole Werner’s line-up comes from two defeats, the last of which came against a Bayer Leverkusen team on the rise (2-3), although, as in the match against Augsburg the week before, Fullkrug and his team-mates had a hint of a reaction. Unlike Gladbach, newly-promoted Werder’s primary goal was to keep their category and they are just a handful of points away from achieving it.

The Prediction

The first leg ended 5-1 to Werder Bremen and was one of the worst performances of the season for Borussia Monchengladbach, who were disastrous at the Weserstadion. This time the Fohlen should be able to avoid defeat at the very least: they are more comfortable at home and, looking at the statistics, it is clear to see that Werder have not managed to defeat Borussia Park since 2010. Dry for three days, Borussia’s attack could break free against one of the Bundesliga’s least solid defences, who have conceded 46 goals so far.
