Cadiz-Girona is a La Liga match on matchday 21 and is played on Friday at 21:00: odds, predictions, TV and streaming
On paper it is a direct clash for salvation, but in fact it is not. And to understand this you only have to look at the La Liga standings. The best performer so far is the newly-promoted Girona, who, thanks to their last day’s success against Valencia, have jumped up several places and are now +5 from the third-last place, occupied by Cadiz.
Michel’s team, which last year moved up a place after winning the playoffs, is proving that it has what it takes to stay up there. Since resuming play after the world championships, they have only failed to bring home points against Villarreal and in the recent Catalan derby against Barcelona, who won at Montilivi only thanks to a Pedri goal. A salvation that the red and whites are building at home: in front of their own fans they have won 18 of the 24 points they have scored in twenty matches. The problems, on the other hand, are away, where Girona are struggling to remain unbeaten. Away from Catalonia, Castellanos and his team-mates have racked up just one win and three draws and are fourth to last in terms of away performances.
Cadiz, on the other hand, have been too erratic. The Andalusian team is alternating good performances with disappointing ones, especially after the break. Poorly in the last two away matches at home to Sevilla (1-0) and Athletic Bilbao (4-1), much better in the home matches, where a fortnight ago they chastened Mallorca (2-0). The last home defeat for the Sergio-coached team was last September, when they surrendered 4-0 to Barcelona.
The Prediction
Those most in need of points are Cadiz, who would be relegated at the moment. The Andalusians have not lost in front of their own public since September and should react after the ugly defeat in Bilbao. Girona, however, is more vulnerable away and the fact that they have only won on one occasion proves it. A draw cannot be ruled out.
