Leeds-Manchester United is a match valid for the twenty-third day of the Premier League and is played on Sunday at 15:00: TV, formations, predictions.
Leeds v Manchester United, part two. After just four days the two teams find themselves face to face again, albeit on opposite pitches. Last Wednesday, at Old Trafford, in the rematch of the eighth day of the Premier League – originally due to be played in September – we witnessed a half-hearted feat by the Whites, who even took a two-goal lead at the start of the second half.
The evening was immediately in a bad way for the Red Devils, chastened after just one minute of play by a beautiful goal of the Italian Gnonto – always more protagonist the class of ’03 – and immediately forced to chase. In the second half Erik ten Hag’s team then somehow managed to put things right, coming back through Rashford and Sancho. It was a 2-2 draw that was obviously welcomed by Leeds, whose expectations before the Manchester trip were quite different after the ugly defeat in Nottingham that led to Jesse Marsch’s dismissal. On the bench was in fact the interim coach Michael Skubala: in the coming days the club will assess whether to continue with him until the end of the season or to hire another coach. As for Manchester United, ten Hag understood that without Casemiro – the Brazilian was disqualified – his team is much more vulnerable.
The tactical experiments complicated the situation and it was no coincidence that the game turned just as the Dutch coach reverted to his usual form. United who in any case slowed down in the league, with five points won in the last four days.
The league table hasn’t suffered too much, although Newcastle and Tottenham remain on their heels and continue to threaten the Red Devils’ Champions League place, not far behind even their Manchester City cousins, second with two more points. Casemiro will be missing again at Elland Road and Eriksen, who is injured, will not be there either. Leeds, meanwhile, remain at serious risk of relegation despite drawing at Old Trafford, just one point ahead of third-last-placed Everton.
The Prediction
Leeds tried to react to the negative period by stopping Manchester United’s very long home winning streak. Unlikely they will be able to stop the Red Devils for the second time in a few days, but the match at Elland Road is one that should guarantee a spectacle again: at least three goals in total.
