Schalke 04-Leipzig, Bundesliga: odds, predictions

by Michael

Schalke 04-Leipzig is a match of the 17th day of the Bundesliga and is played on Tuesday at 18:30: formations, predictions, TV and streaming.

Last Friday’s direct clash with Bayern Munich left Leipzig feeling good as they managed to avoid defeat against the battleship coached by their former coach Julian Nagelsmann. The Bavarians, who in any case remain first in the standings with a five-point lead over the second-placed team, probably need to regain their condition after the long break and the Roten Bullen took advantage of that.

Marco Rose’s men held their own against Bayern, playing almost evenly and finding the equalising goal (1-1) early in the second half through Halstenberg, who replied to Cameroonian Choupo-Moting. In the final Leipzig were also able to build up chances to take home the three points, but paid the price for their lack of concreteness in front of goal, being without their goal scorer Nkunku, who was out injured. Against the reigning German champions, however, came the fourteenth consecutive useful result: Gvardiol and his companions’ last defeat dates back to last September, taking into account not only the Bundesliga but also the Champions League. In the standings Leipzig are paying the price for the complicated start with Domenico Tedesco on the bench and are still a long way from the top: there are currently six points between the Saxons and Bayern Munich.

Schalke fail to turn it around

In the midweek round the Roten Bullen will try to put pressure on their rivals in the away match with bottom-of-the-table Schalke 04.

The Gelsenkirchen line-up fails to change pace. The first match of 2023 was also one to forget: a heavy 3-0 defeat at home to Eintracht Frankfurt, the second defeat in a row after the one against Bayern Munich in November. Thomas Reis and his team have only managed two victories in sixteen matches and the salvation zone is seven points away. Schalke’s numbers do not allow them to look to the future positively – the attack continues to struggle and the defence is the second most beaten in the tournament – with the relegation nightmare (it would be the second after two years ago) materialising round after round. And it is not helped, in this sense, by the corporate problems.

The prediction

Leipzig did not go down in defeat to Bayern Munich and should be able to take the three points away from the Veltins Arena without any major problems, in a game where there should be no shortage of goals considering Schalke 04’s problems in the non-possession phase.

The likely line-up for Schalke 04-Leipzig
