Manchester United-Charlton is a League Cup quarter-final match to be played on Tuesday at 9pm: odds, predictions, TV and streaming.
Manchester United are one of the few English teams to remain in the running for all four competitions they have entered this year.
Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup. Only three days ago Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils made it through to the third round of the country’s most prestigious cup, beating Frank Lampard’s Everton 3-1 at Old Trafford and securing their fifth win since the season began. A winning streak that is actually even longer, if you consider that before the Qatari World Cup, Manchester United had collected two other victories, the one in the League Cup against Aston Villa and in the league against Fulham. In short, after a complicated start – also because of the not easy management of the Cristiano Ronaldo case – the Dutch ex-Ajax coach seems to have found the way to start that new course that United fans have been waiting for for years.
Five wins in a row for the Red Devils
Ten Hag awaits news from the market – he has been promised a striker who can take CR7’s place – and in the meantime there could also be some excellent disposals. There is, in fact, talk of an imminent farewell of defender Maguire, bought in 2019 for over 80 million.
And as the eagerly awaited city derby with arch-rivals City looms on the horizon – it will be the real litmus test for Bruno Fernandes and co – Manchester United have their sights set on the League Cup semi-finals, a competition in which they have triumphed five times in the past. After eliminating Burnley and Aston Villa, the Red Devils host Charlton at Old Trafford, who in the previous round surprisingly knocked out Roberto De Zerbi’s Brighton, eliminated on penalties. The Addicks have played four more games since that cup clash with the Seagulls, with two important victories coming recently against Portsmouth and Lincoln City. Six points that have re-launched Dean Holden’s men, although the playoff zone of League One – the English third tier – remains distant: between the Londoners and seventh place there are nine lengths.
The Prediction
It is almost a foregone conclusion that Ten Hag will save someone ahead of the derby, which could become a watershed for Manchester United if they are successful. But the former Ajax coach should in any case field a competitive line-up, capable of beating an opponent two categories below him without major problems. The Red Devils are in great form and have kept their goal unbeaten in four of their last five matches: they will probably do it again this time.
