West Ham-Brentford, Premier League: odds, predictions

by Michael

West Ham-Brentford is a match valid for the eighteenth day of the Premier League and is played on Friday at 20:45: predictions, TV, streaming

It was a bitter Boxing Day for West Ham, who, in the London derby with Arsenal (3-1), collected another defeat, the fourth consecutive in the Premier League. Scoring points against the Gunners, who are increasingly first in the standings, was unlikely. But what worried Hammers coach David Moyes most was the performance of his men, which was inadequate in almost every respect.

And yet West Ham had managed to take the lead on the night at the Emirates Stadium, thanks to a penalty kick converted by Benrahma. The Algerian’s goal, however, only gave the illusion: Arsenal needed only a quarter of an hour in the second half to overturn the result with the unleashed Saka, Martinelli and Nketiah and extinguish the ambitions of their cousins, who were forced to reckon with yet another knockout. In fact, West Ham’s season continues to not take off and the disappointment is palpable if you consider that in the last two seasons the historic London club has made an important leap in quality, starting to steadily attend the noble areas of the standings and making its way also in the international field, where last year it reached the semi-finals of the Europa League.

Hammers just above the red zone

Basically, so far West Ham have only done well in the Conference League, but against uncompetitive opponents. And the league table is starting to worry as the Hammers are just one point above the relegation zone

In the last match of 2022 Moyes and his side are involved in another derby, this time against Brentford, who have six more points than West Ham and are tenth. The Bees are one of the surprises of the early part of the season: unbeaten for four matches, unbeaten before the break when they beat Manchester City 3-1 at home, and on Boxing Day they came close to another resounding success against Antonio Conte’s Tottenham, taking a 2-0 lead before being caught up in the second half.

The Prediction

West Ham cannot be trusted at the moment, having found themselves sensationally struggling to avoid relegation. After the clear defeat against Arsenal, we expect a reaction from the Hammers in front of their home crowd, where they have won 10 of their 14 points. The fact remains, however, that Brentford are a tough nut to crack. A draw cannot be ruled out.
