Southampton-Brighton, Premier League: odds, predictions

by Michael

Southampton-Brighton is a match valid for the 17th day of the Premier League and is played on Monday at 4pm: predictions, TV, streaming.

A little over a hundred kilometres separate Brighton and Southampton, two cities that both face the south coast of England. It could be described as one of several ‘southern’ derbies, although it remains the Seagulls’ fiercest rivalry with Crystal Palace, who have only started to make regular appearances in the English top flight in recent years.

Since last September, this club has been the focus of the Italian media due to the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi on the bench. The former Sassuolo coach took over the legacy of Graham Potter, who was ‘bought’ by Chelsea at the beginning of the season after Tuchel’s exoneration. Not an easy task for the coach from Brescia, considering that his predecessor had been able to lead Brighton to a couple of quiet salvations, ending last year with a historic ninth place in the table. De Zerbi had a less than soft impact in his new experience, partly due to a prohibitive schedule. Then came two wins in a row – one of them against Chelsea – but on the last day the Seagulls fell again at home to Aston Villa. It was a sensational week, however, as Brighton were eliminated from the League Cup on penalties after a 0-0 draw by third-tier side Charlton.

De Zerbi without Argentine Mac Allister

A thrashing that made a lot of noise, given that it was a vastly inferior opponent and one that wasn’t doing well at all. De Zerbi wants to turn over a new leaf in the match against Southampton, in which he will have to do without Alexis Mac Allister, one of the main protagonists of Argentina’s Qatari triumph

The Saints are one of the teams most in trouble: they have 12 points, they are second to last and a few days before the World Cup break they put an end to the experience of German Ralph Hasenhuttl, exonerated after the home defeat against Newcastle. To try to pull themselves out of trouble they turned to the Welshman Nathan Jones, former coach of Luton. In the past week the first joy arrived, with the passage of the round in the League Cup against Lincoln City (2-1). But more will be needed to bring home yet another salvation.

The Prediction

We imagine Brighton’s reaction will be immediate after their resounding elimination from the League Cup. The Seagulls should return home with at least a point in their pocket, while also finding their way back into the scoring position: expect at least two goals in total
