Brentford-Tottenham, Premier League: odds, predictions

by Michael

Brentford-Tottenham is a match valid for the 17th day of the Premier League and is played on Monday at 1:30pm: predictions, TV, streaming.

The Premier League is the first of Europe’s big five leagues to reopen after a 50-day stoppage for Qatar 2022. The spotlight is once again ready to shift from the Middle East to the Old Continent. In England, play resumes immediately, also because it would have been impossible to think of ‘bypassing’ the traditional Boxing Day.

As every year, the English top league is the big protagonist of Boxing Day: this time there are no less than seven matches scheduled on day 17. It starts with one of the many London derbies. It is certainly not one of the most important ones, as Brentford has only been in the top flight for a couple of seasons and for this reason there have been very few occasions for a clash with the higher-ranked Tottenham. Antonio Conte’s Spurs have not yet played any official matches, having been eliminated from the League Cup in the previous round. Only friendlies for the Salento coach’s side, who beat Scotland’s Motherwell 4-0 and drew 1-1 with Nice.

Regular choices for Conte

Tottenham have not been consistently consistent in the first half of the season but are still fourth in the table – ahead of Manchester United and Liverpool – and all things considered in line with their season goals. It will, however, be a potentially tricky home opener for the Bees, who did the trick in their last match before the break, going on to win 2-1 at home to Manchester City.

Thomas Frank’s side look likely to reach safety as early as they did last year: Toney and his team-mates are currently tenth and have won 12 of their 19 points overall in front of their home crowd. Tottenham, on the other hand, had bid farewell to the Premier League with a resounding victory against Leeds (4-3) with Rodrigo Bentancur’s decisive double, after returning injured from Qatar. In addition to the former Juventus man, national players Lloris, Romero, Perisic and Richarlison will be missing. Kulusevski, Son and captain Kane are expected to feature, with the latter looking to make up for the disappointment of the missed penalty in the World Cup quarter-final between England and France.

The Prediction

A Tottenham, who are re-staffed and without a few key players, could find it difficult on a difficult pitch like Brentford’s, a tough team who are managing to cause problems to several big names this year. It is not out of the question that the Bees can avoid defeat in a match with at least one goal each.

Brentford-Tottenham’s likely line-up

  • BRENTFORD (3-5-2): Raya; Zanka, Mee, Pinnock; Roerslev, Onyeka, Janelt, Jensen, Henry; Mbeumo, Toney.
  • TOTTENHAM (3-4-2-1): Forster; Dier, Lenglet, Davies; Emerson Royal, Hojbjerg, Bissouma, Doherty; Kulusevski, Son; Kane.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 1-1
