Turkey has become a popular destination for Serie A teams as they embark on their second preparation of this strange season, ‘split’ by the World Cup.
Like Lazio, who are currently engaged in a series of friendly matches on the Bosphorus shores, Davide Nicola’s Salernitana have also chosen to prepare for their return to the pitch in the land of the crescent moon. Last Saturday, the Campania side faced Fenerbahçe, currently first in the Super Lig standings with a two-point lead over historic rivals Galatasaray. And they received a resounding drubbing: 3-0. For Salernitana it was the first friendly after the long break. For the men coached by Portuguese Jorge Jesus, however, it was their fifth outing. The Turkish top league, in fact, will resume as early as Christmas Eve. And a few days before that there is the appointment with the national cup.
The second friendly will be played by Salernitana against Alanyaspor, another Super Lig team in mid-table. The orange-greens are led by a young Italian coach, Francesco Farioli, the former goalkeeper coach of Sassuolo, who was in the running to replace Roberto De Zerbi on the neroverde bench a few years ago. Alanyaspor also just played a friendly against Fenerbahçe, being overwhelmed 4-2.
The starting eleven should not include the veterans from Qatar (Piatek, Dia, Bronn) nor the injured Mazzocchi and Maggiore. Up front Nicola will field Botheim and Bonazzoli.

Nicola is likely to continue with his experiments against Alanyaspor, as he cannot count on several starters. But this time the granata should at least avoid defeat, against a team that almost always adopts an unprejudiced attitude and has to reckon with one of the most beaten defences in the Turkish league
