Venezia-Cosenza, Serie B: streaming, odds, predictions

by Thorsten

Venezia-Cosenza is a Serie B Week 17 match to be played on Sunday at 15:00: odds, predictions, TV and streaming.

A single point separates Venice and Cosenza in the standings, two teams that seem to have regained confidence and solidity after the change of technical guide, which took place about a month ago. For both of them, however, the classification is still not at all comforting. The lagoon players’ landing in the cadetteria, relegated from the A league, was by no means soft, and the inexperience of coach Javorcic did the rest. The Croatian coach, protagonist of the promotion with Sudtirol from C to B, saw his experience on the orange and green bench come to an end following the defeat against Ascoli. Now Paolo Vanoli is at the helm of Venezia: the former Parma and Fiorentina player had made his debut by losing at home to Reggina (1-2), but after the match against the amaranth, he has racked up three positive results, the two victories against Palermo (0-1) and Ternana (2-1) and the precious draw in Modena in the last midweek match. In the rocambolic 2-2 at the ‘Braglia’ stadium, Ceccaroni and his team-mates regained the draw on the stroke of 90 minutes, thanks to a goal from Norwegian Johnsen.

There is great harmony with his Finnish team-mate Pohjanpalo and the Scandinavian-branded attack seems to be working. However, the classification remains precarious, with Venezia momentarily second-last and in the middle of the relegation zone. On Thursday, however, the final minutes were fatal for William Viali’s Cosenza, who were caught (1-1) by Brescia in the dying minutes after having taken the lead midway through the second half with experienced striker Larrivey. An epilogue that left a bitter taste in the mouth for the Lupi silani, who in any case appear to be on the up, as the four consecutive useful results show. The turnaround is evident compared to the Dionigi management, which ended after four defeats in a row.

Vanoli’s doubt mainly concerns the goal: Joronen is not at his best and Bertinato could start again from 1′. The form that the coach will choose is the 3-5-2, but on the left flank this time Zampano will play instead of Haps, with Candela who will dominate the right lane instead. In front, the Johnsen-Pohjanpalo pair will be confirmed. Viali is also anxious about his goalkeeper, Marson, who got injured in the Brescia goal. In case of forfeit, Matosevic is ready. In the middle Voca should return, while on the three-quarter D’Urso plays a shirt with Merola. La Vardera will have a chance on the left.

The prediction

Strange but true: Venezia have only collected four points in front of their home crowd and are in last place in terms of home performances. The first home victory came a week ago against Ternana. For its part, however, not even Cosenza is doing well away, where it has collected barely six points. In short, it has all the air of being a hard-fought challenge between two teams that are on the rise, but both risk finding themselves at the bottom of the classification, which is still very short at the bottom. It is likely to be at least two goals in total. Venezia’s greater quality could make the difference.

The probable line-ups of Venezia-Cosenza

  • VENEZIA (3-5-2): Bertinato; Wisniewski, Ceppitelli, Ceccaroni; Candela, Crnigoj, Tessmann, Andersen, Zampano; Pohjanpalo, Johnsen.
  • COSENZA (4-3-2-1): Marson; Rispoli, Rigione, Vaisanen, La Vardera; Voca, Calò, Florenzi; Brignola, D’Urso; Larrivey.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 2-1
