PESCARA – TARANTO | Monday 8:30pm

TARANTO A heavy blow for Pescara, the ugly defeat of a fortnight ago in the direct clash with Catanzaro, which risks breaking – perhaps definitively, judging by the standings – the Abruzzesi’s first place hopes. Yes, because after the 0-3 with the Calabrians, a real war machine, last week the Delfino ran into another false step, the second consecutive, against a not negligible opponent like Virtus Francavilla (3-2). It was a match that started badly and ended worse for Alberto Colombo’s men, who conceded three more goals – the comeback attempts by Lescano and Cuppone were ineffective – and lost further ground to the Giallorossi. Yesterday Catanzaro brought home yet another victory and Crotone’s immediate response came as well, with Pescara now in danger of slipping out of second place.

Winning, in short, is imperative in the derby between the ‘Dolphins’ and Taranto, coached by the volcanic Eziolino Capuano, who are fumbling in the playout zone. Four defeats in the last six days for the Rossoblù, who nevertheless managed to pull off the feat seven days ago by stopping Crotone and twice going ahead (2-2). The classic point that gives morale, if only for the fact of having slowed down the race of a team equipped for direct promotion. Taranto will have to adopt the same attitude away from the ‘Iacovone’, where so far they have barely picked up a point: only Messina have done worse away from home.

The Prediction

TThere should be a timely reaction from Pescara after two consecutive defeats that have left their mark and significantly distanced the Abruzzesi from the summit. Taranto will play their usual game of substance and sacrifice, but the feeling is that they will not improve on their disastrous away record in this match. Pescara are therefore favourites in a match in which they are likely to score between two and four goals.

The Pescara-Taranto line-up

  • PESCARA (4-3-2-1): Plizzari; Cancellotti, Brosco, Ingrosso, Crescenzi; Kraja, Palmiero, Gyabuaa; Cuppone, Desogus; Lescano.
  • TARANTO (3-5-1-1): Vannucchi; Manetta, Antonini, Evangelisti; Formiconi, Mastromonaco, Labriola, Mazza, Ferrara; Guida; Tommasini.

POSSIBLE RESULT: 3-1
