Official line-up Poland v Argentina, an almost obligatory victory for Messi and his team-mates: prediction of goalscorers, cautions and shooters

Leo Messi and Enzo Fernandez kept Argentina alive with their goals as they struggled to beat Mexico 2-0 on the second day of the group stage to stay in the running for qualification and top spot in Group C. It was a victory of fundamental importance for the Albiceleste, fresh from their shock debut against Saudi Arabia. Drawn by its star player, Lionel Scaloni’s Selección cannot, however, allow itself any more breaks. The match against Lewandowski’s Poland looks like an in or out game, as even a draw might not be enough for the South Americans. The Poles, on the other hand, are masters of their own destiny, as they lead the group standings with four points and with a win they would go through as first.

Whoever wins this group will face Australia, who surprisingly beat top-ranked Denmark in a direct clash this afternoon. The team that will advance to the round of 16 as runners-up, on the other hand, will face world champions France. Here are the line-up choices of the two technical commissioners, Michniewicz and Scaloni.

  • POLAND (4-4-2): Szczesny; Cash, Glik, Kiwior, Bereszynski; Zielinski, Bielik, Krychowiak, Frankowski; Swiderski, Lewandowski. CT: Czeslaw Michniewicz.
  • ARGENTINA (4-2-3-1): E. Martinez; Molina, Otamendi, Romero, Acuna; Enzo Fernandez, De Paul; Di Maria, Messi, Mac Allister; Julian Alvarez. CT: Lionel Scaloni.
