Rangers-Ajax, Champions League: TV, line-ups, predictions

by Martin

RANGERS – AJAX | Tuesday 9pm

The games for the first two places in group A, the one where Napoli and Liverpool are, are already done. And those for third place seem to be definitely done as well. Ajax pay a visit to Rangers, who have never won, on the strength of their 4-0 victory in the first leg, which makes them safe from any possible upset. Only one goal scored for the home side in this first phase of the Champions League and to think of scoring five to at least go into the Europa League, all in one evening, seems out of the ordinary and out of God’s grace. In short, Ajax are safe and will try not to lose mainly, so as not to end up level on points with the Scots anyway and go ahead on goal difference.

In all of this, Rangers’ goal is at least to exult one more time in the Champions League this season and thus make a date for next year’s European campaign. A European campaign that to call disappointing is putting it mildly, and one that could certainly have given something more. Of course, with this Napoli side everything seemed difficult, and even Liverpool, after such a start, put things back on track by winning all the other four games available.

The Prediction

A match that serves little purpose. A match that will see at least one goal per team, and of this there is little doubt. Then who knows, it might even come out a draw, at least that is the feeling. But the accounts are already done of course for third place. The game is only played for statistics. And for glory.
